The Cross River State Government has unveiled plans to reduce public transportation costs by up to 50 percent, signaling a major policy shift aimed at easing the financial burden on commuters across the state.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize the transport sector, improve mobility, and enhance economic productivity for residents.

In a forward-looking move, the state is also set to deploy electric vehicles into its public transportation system positioning Cross River as a potential pioneer in clean and sustainable transport innovation in Nigeria. The introduction of electric vehicles is expected to reduce dependence on fuel, lower operational costs, and promote environmental sustainability.

The development has been linked to the administration of Prince Bassey Otu, with growing commendation from stakeholders who view the initiative as both bold and transformative.

Notably, Hon. Dr. Kalita Joe Aruku has also been recognized for his role in supporting youth-focused development initiatives aligned with the state’s economic and innovation agenda.
