The Chairman disclosed this during an interactive session with members of Mbok Community in Ekajuk Ward 2, where he described the area as a major gateway into Ogoja that requires proper planning, reorganization, and development to match its strategic importance. According to him, the proposed intervention is designed to serve the public interest while also providing a sustainable source of revenue for the council.
Chief Agbeh emphasized that improved motor park infrastructure would enhance orderliness, safety, and economic activities, thereby boosting the council’s revenue base and supporting grassroots development.
Responding on behalf of the elders of Mbok Community, Pastor Thomas Modey expressed concern over the absence of basic social amenities in the area, despite the ward’s high voting population. He lamented that existing government facilities, including the health centre and public primary school, were grossly understaffed. Pastor Modey also appealed to the council to provide potable water, noting that residents currently rely solely on streams for their daily water needs.
In a related development, the Council Chairman also visited Ekpugiriya Community, where discussions were concluded on the proposed takeover of the community motor park. Chief Agbeh explained that the initiative was primarily aimed at ensuring the safety, welfare, and overall well-being of the people, while also improving revenue generation for the local government.
Speaking through an interpreter, the Chairman of Ekpugiriya Community assured the council that the motor park rightfully belongs to the local government, adding that there was no opposition to the council’s decision to take over and rehabilitate the facility.
Members of the Chairman’s entourage during the visits included the Supervisor for Transportation, Hon. Iyang Nnang; Supervisor for Humanitarian Affairs, Hon. Livinus Ekane; Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Barr. Leo Egede; Special Adviser on Peace and Security, Mr. Sylvester Okongor iruma; Director of Works, Engr. Raymond Ebim; Director of Urban Development, Mr. Frank Eyou; and the Ward Relations Officer for Ekajuk Ward 2, Mr. Joseph momnang.
The proposed motor park reforms are expected to improve public safety, enhance urban development, and significantly boost internally generated revenue, as the Ogoja Local Government Council continues efforts to deliver people-oriented governance at the grassroots.
