Cross River State Councillors Clarify: Our December 3rd Meeting Is NOT a Protest.

In response to circulating rumors across social media, the Cross River State Councillor’s Forum has issued an important clarification regarding their upcoming general meeting scheduled for Wednesday, December 3rd, in Ikom.

According to the Forum, claims that the gathering is a protest or an attempt to challenge the State Government are entirely false. Instead, councillors describe the meeting as a long-awaited assembly centered on unity, welfare, and constructive dialogue.

A Meeting Focused on Unity and Welfare

Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Hon. Sunny Achang, Secretary of the Cross River State Councillor's Forum, emphasized that the meeting is simply a platform for councillors to finally come together since their inauguration.

For the first time, all 196 councillors from across Cross River State will sit in the same room to discuss legislative challenges, share development ideas, and deliberate on issues affecting their families and work.

Another key agenda point is welfare. Many councillors like workers in any other sectors have not received essential entitlements such as car loans, wardrobe allowances, and furniture support, which are necessary for effective service delivery. The upcoming meeting aims to create a unified and respectful approach in appealing to the State Government for these entitlements.

No Protest, No Confrontation "Councillors Reaffirm Loyalty"

The Forum made it clear that they hold deep respect and appreciation for His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, especially for ensuring timely salary payment amid economic challenges.

They stressed that the gathering is not a protest, nor is it an attempt to undermine the Governor or the State Government. Rather, it is an internal “family meeting” of councillors intended to align their priorities and prepare for a respectful audience with the Governor regarding welfare concerns.

A Call for Calm and Understanding

The Councillor’s Forum is urging Cross Riverians to ignore misleading reports and online speculations. The December 3rd meeting, they insist, is about strengthening their bond, improving coordination, and enhancing their capacity to serve their communities effectively.

As Hon. Sunny Achang put it, the councillors are simply “putting heads together for the good of the State.”
