OGOJA, Cross River State — The Vice Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Council, Hon. Mrs. Mary Illah Otoro, on Monday warmly received members of the Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Holy Trinity Parish, Ogboja, during a courtesy visit to her office following her recent appointment. The visit, which was marked by prayers, thanksgiving, and words of encouragement, underscored the strong relationship between faith-based organizations and leadership in promoting community development within Ogoja Local Government Area. CHAMPIONING A PROGRESSIVE FUTURE FOR NORTHERN CROSS RIVER.
The Northern Cross River Coalition (NORTHCCO) is a vision who's time has come. Indeed there could be no better time for the coalition to be birthed than now.
The vision of the coalition which is centered on promotion of unity, cooperation and sustainable development of the five local governments of the Northern Senatorial District is apt.
The galvanization of the people of the region for innovative initiatives which is at the heart of the mission of the coalition is unveiling for Northern Cross River an Agenda for Regional Integration and Sustainable Economic Development (NORTH ARISE) that will champion a progressive future for the region.
Regional integration and cooperation has the potential of building not only a strong and united region but also achieving sustainable economic development that will bring prosperity for the five local governments and it's people.
NORTHCCO's vision goes beyond socio political growth, it encompasses socio economic development even as Directorates have been created for Needs Assessment as well as Regional Integration and Sustainable Economic Development.
Northern Cross River Agenda for Regional Integration and Sustainable Economic Development (NORTH ARISE) Commission which is to be established at the General Assembly of NORTHCCO will serve as the institutional framework for regional integration and development in Northern Cross River.
Some key Regional Integration and Economic Development initiatives considered include Regional Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Company (including Renewable Energy) which is expected to be public private partnership driven.
Another initiative conceived is the regional Electric and CNG powered Vehicles Public Transportation project with Terminals in the capital of each of the five Local governments as well as Lagos, Abuja, Calabar. This will also establish an intra city public transportation infrastructure.
A regional Sustainable Agriculture Development Company is also planned to engage in Commercial Mechanized Production of Key Food and Cash Crops like rice, yam, cassava, oil palm, groundnut etc. Over 50,000 hectares of land in the region is expected to be cultivated.
The fourth initiative is expansion of Industrialization initiatives in the region to process abundant raw materials. The One Local Government, One Industry initiative is an agenda that must be achieved for the prosperity of Northern Cross River. Beyond the rice mill and Groundnut oil factory, others like Oil palm mill, Cassava Starch factory as well as Flour mills are considered.
Finally, regional infrastructure development is a must for Northern Cross River. From Healthcare, to Quality Education to Road, Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure, NORTHCCO plans to drive sustainable development in the region.
The coalition calls for all hands to be on deck to achieve these laudable goals within the shortest possible time. NORTHCCO is truly poised to make a difference.
