Councilor Representing Urban ward 2 Hon. Mary Illah Otoro Moves Motion to Restore Power Supply in Urban ward 2 - Ogoja LGA.

In a bid to address the ongoing power supply challenges in Abakpa, Ogoja, Hon. Mary Illah Otoro, the Councilor Representing Urban Ward 2, has moved a motion urging the Local Government to take immediate action in restoring electricity to some affected areas. For the past three years, several parts of Abakpa have experienced a total blackout due to the malfunctioning and vandalization of transformers by thieves.

The motion seeks to bring urgent attention and intervention to three transformers located in key areas of Abakpa: Abakpa Bridge, Santa-Maria Clinic, and Basin Road opposite the Government Technical College, Abakpa.

Abakpa Bridge Transformer: serves Old Court Road, Boki Road, Ogboja Road, and Igol-Afok.

Santa-Maria Transformer: Powers Timber Shade Road, Salvation Street, Artoliti, Jossedy Road, Junction Road, and Salvation Close opposite Artoliti.

Basin Road Transformer: Supplies Basin Road, Obi Odu Road, and UNICROSS.

The power outages have affected businesses, households, and essential services, including healthcare, schools, and local infrastructure. In light of this, Hon. Otoro’s motion calls on the Local Government authorities to promptly restore power to these areas in order to improve the living conditions of the residents.

Co-Sponsors of the Motion include:

Hon. Sunny A. Achang, Councilor Representing Mbube East 1 and the Deputy Leader of the House

Hon. Edi Gabriel Jnr., Councilor Representing Ekajuk Ward 2

In a joint statement, the sponsors expressed their commitment to the welfare of their constituents and their determination to work with the relevant authorities to ensure that power is restored without delay. They emphasized that the restoration of power will not only alleviate hardship but also enhance community development, local businesses, and access to critical services.

The motion was moved and discussed in the Council’s recent session, with the support of fellow councilors and a unanimous call for swift action to address the issue.

The leadership of the Ogoja Local Government is expected to review the motion and take the necessary steps to resolve the power supply crisis in the affected parts of Abakpa.

Issued by:
Office of Hon. Mary Illah Otoro, Councilor Representing Urban Ward 2, Ogoja Local Government Council.
