The Vice Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Area, Hon. Mary Illah Otoro, and the Secretary of Council, Chief Alex Igbang Atem, have successfully completed a four-day capacity-building seminar aimed at enhancing leadership, administrative efficiency, and service delivery in Nigeria's local government system.
The seminar, organised by Leadership Resource Managers (LRM) Management Consultants, took place from July 21 to July 24, 2026, at Green Minds Hotel, Utako, Abuja. The programme brought together Vice Chairmen and Secretaries of Local Government Councils from across the country to strengthen their knowledge of result-oriented governance and effective public administration.
At the end of the intensive training, participants were presented with Certificates of Attendance in recognition of their active participation and commitment to professional development. Hon. Mary Illah Otoro and Chief Alex Igbang Atem were among the officials honoured after successfully completing the programme.
The seminar covered key areas critical to effective grassroots governance, including leadership excellence, accountability, policy implementation, productivity, institutional effectiveness, and innovative strategies for delivering quality public services. Participants also engaged in peer-learning sessions, exchanging ideas and practical experiences on improving governance at the local government level.
The participation of the two Ogoja officials underscores the commitment of the Ogoja Local Government Administration, under the leadership of Chairman Chief Hon. Christopher Agbeh, to continuous learning, institutional capacity building, and responsive governance. The knowledge and skills acquired during the seminar are expected to strengthen policy implementation, improve administrative efficiency, and enhance service delivery across the local government.
The capacity-building initiative forms part of the Cross River State Government's broader efforts to equip local government officials with modern leadership and management competencies necessary for effective, transparent, and people-centred governance.
As Hon. Mary Illah Otoro and Chief Alex Igbang Atem return to Ogoja, expectations are high that the insights gained during the seminar will translate into improved council operations, strengthened institutional performance, and accelerated grassroots development for the benefit of the people.
The development further reinforces the importance of continuous professional development for public office holders as local governments increasingly play a pivotal role in driving sustainable development and improving the quality of life in communities across Nigeria.
