In a decisive move to strengthen national security and refocus policing priorities, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded an impressive level of compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive ordering the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties.
Following the presidential order, the Force Headquarters deployed a special enforcement team to ensure strict implementation. On Saturday, December 6, 2025, beginning at about 10:00 am, the team embarked on an extensive monitoring operation across major locations in Lagos State.
Key areas inspected included the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and several other strategic hotspots within the state.
According to findings from the monitoring exercise, the Nigeria Police Force demonstrated high and commendable compliance. No single case of unauthorized VIP escort deployment was recorded, and no arrest was necessary.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Force to fully uphold the presidential directive. He emphasized that the withdrawal will allow the redeployment of officers to core policing functions—boosting security, enhancing crime prevention, and improving the overall protection of lives and property across Nigeria.
The IGP further assured Nigerians that the enforcement exercise will continue nationwide “without fear or favour,” as the Police work toward a more professional, efficient, and citizen-centered security architecture.
The statement was issued by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Public Relations Officer, on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Ogoja Breaking News will continue to monitor and report developments on this national security reform.
