NYCN OGOJA LGA PARTICIPATES IN NDLEA SYMPOSIUM TO FIGHT DRUG ABUSE AMONG YOUTHS

The Leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Ogoja Chapter, actively participated in a symposium organised by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Cross River State Command in collaboration with the Cross River State Ministry of Youth Development and the NYCN Cross River State Chapter led by Comrade Nurse Emmanuel Olayi.

The event, which was held to commemorate the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, provided a significant platform for sensitisation, dialogue, and collective action against the growing challenge of drug abuse among young people.

The NYCN Ogoja LGA Coordinator, His Youthfulness Comrade Israel Obu, and Treasurer, Comrade Stephen Egar Ayim, were in attendance, alongside other notable youth leaders who graced the occasion, including the NYCN Cross River State Public Relations Officer, Comrade Melchizedek Okwe, and the First Female Speaker of the Cross River State Youth Parliament, Rt. Hon. Ugeh Comfort Mona.

The Deputy Commander of the NDLEA, Cross River State Command, delivered a compelling presentation, highlighting the dangers and far-reaching consequences of drug abuse on individuals, communities, and national growth. He identified key factors contributing to drug addiction among youths, such as peer pressure, emotional stress, curiosity, and a general lack of awareness about the risks involved.

The Deputy Commander also provided practical solutions for overcoming drug addiction, including seeking professional assistance, building strong support systems, participating in positive social engagements, and developing effective coping strategies. He passionately called on the youth to rise as ambassadors against drug abuse, urging them to use their influence and platforms to champion the fight against drug-related vices.

The symposium was a valuable space for youth engagement, sensitisation, and collaboration, strengthening the resolve of youth leaders to collectively address the issue of drug abuse and foster a drug-free society.

The NYCN Ogoja LGA remains committed to supporting youth-focused initiatives and advocating for a healthy, productive, and drug-free generation.
